This is the name of an approach only to piping analysis. The basic one, as you might guess, is conservative, while the second one is liberal. Below is an example from real life of the \"collision\" of these two approaches on one design. The case concerns a gas pipeline with a working pressure of 15 barg, which is to be run on a piperack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The photo below from the inventory shows a correctly made U-shaped compensator on the existing gas system, which will be adjacent to the designed ones. Estimating the proportions from the photo, the bend radius is about 10D. This is fully consistent with good engineering practice in this area. Such large bend radius result from cleaning the pipeline with steam (about twice a year) at 6 bar and an average temperature of 170C.<sup>0<\/sup>C.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-0-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2782\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The designer designed a short bend with a 3D radius. The first one is to use equation 12.3.4 \u2013 1 to determine the design stress for the temperature load combination. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"875\" height=\"274\" src=\"https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2785\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-2.jpg 875w, https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-2-480x150.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 875px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In a situation where equation 12.3.4 \u2013 1 is not met, the standard allows the use of equation 12.3.4 \u2013 2, which increases the design stress by about several dozen percent. <strong>To podej\u015bcie popularnie nazywane jest liberal stress.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"871\" height=\"295\" src=\"https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2786\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-3.jpg 871w, https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-3-480x163.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 871px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The results for the conservative approach are presented below, which show that a typical U-shaped compensator in the system is strained above the allowable stress of 232 MPa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"866\" height=\"613\" src=\"https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2788\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-4.jpg 866w, https:\/\/jureknawrocki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Liberal-stress-4-480x340.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 866px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are the results for the liberal approach.
